50+ Club NEWS and REVIEWS…

August 9, 2017 – Newport, Rhode Island

It was a blue sky day for the members of the 50+ Club attending a recent lighthouse cruise on Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island. First off, a delicious full course lunch of Lobster or prime rib was served at Captain Jack’s that more than filled the diners’ appetites. Then it was off to board a high speed catamaran for the tour, which was enjoyed by all. Members were busy taking photos of the lighthouses, the yachts and each other. A favorite for many was the waterfront in Newport, with its elegant mansions and yachts.  All agreed it was a wonderful trip

July 12, 2017 – Massachusetts North Shore

The Massachusetts North Shore was the destination in July for members of Christ the King Parish 50+ Club. First on the agenda was the waterfront Gloucester House Restaurant where a delicious luncheon was enjoyed by all. Scenic water cruises are eagerly anticipated and the narrated tour of the Essex River did not disappoint the members.  The final destination was Rockport where shopping, scenic views and, of course, ice cream were among the highlights of the day’s journey.  Fair weather was the rule for the day, and the thunderstorms which had been predicted, did not arrive until everyone was safely on the bus for the ride home.

June 19, 2017  Tall Ships, Boston

Fifty-six members of the 50 plus Club of Christ the King Parish had a nautical thrill recently at the “Tall Ships” extravaganza in Boston Harbor. Upon arriving they boarded the sightseeing boat “Provincetown II” for a floating tour of the international sailing ships.  Armed with their cameras, the Cape Codders delighted themselves with their pictures of the fleet and of themselves of course.

Following the cruise, it was off to a full course lunch at Maggiano’s Italian Restaurant in Park Square. Diners were more than full with the excellent offerings, much to the delight of all.

May 8-9 2017:  Hudson River Valley

Members of Christ the King Parish 50+ Club traveled to the scenic Hudson River Valley May 8th and 9th.

The first day included a visit to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Mansion and grounds and a visit to Eleanor Roosevelt’s cottage, Val-Kill.  These sites included information about FDR’s upbringing as well as learning the history and stories surrounding the buildings.

Following a delicious Italian dinner at the “Trattoria Locanda” Restaurant in Fishkill New York, the group spent a restful night at the hotel and was ready for day two of their adventure!

The motor coach took the scenic route to West Point for a scheduled tour of the United States Military Academy.  A native West Point tour guide pointed out and discussed the historic sites including the cemetery where many famous West Point graduates are buried.  Luncheon that day was at the West Point Officer’s Club which featured a delicious buffet.

Our visit to the area concluded with a narrated cruise along the Hudson River, itself a storehouse of historic events.

“Wonderful,”” Informative” and “Scenic” were some of the comments heard at the conclusion of the trip.
